477½. This is a special political episode where we talk to
          Peyton Michelle. On July 12, 2020, Peyton became the first
          openly transgender woman to win political office in Louisiana,
          as Big Easy Magazine was the first to report. Her seat on the
          Democratic State Central Committee isn’t technically a public
          office, but it will allow her to help shape party policy. She
          did also have to win election in the 46th District, a rural
          and conservative area outside of Lafayette. At an age when
          many transgender people of previous generations weren’t even
          able to be out of the closet, the 22-year-old serves on the
          board of Louisiana Trans Advocates and the board of PFLAG
          Lafayette — all while working toward a political science
          degree and doing digital marketing at her day job.
